What’s the new law?
Effective July 1, 2025, North Carolina law requires anyone working at a business that rents rooms to complete a free human trafficking prevention training.
This includes roles like:
Housekeeping
Front desk/check-in
Kitchen and food prep
Maintenance
Any other position at a business that provides overnight accommodations
If you're working in one of these roles through Upshift, you must complete this training.
How to complete the training
The North Carolina Department of Labor offers a free, approved online course:

This step is required for you to remain eligible to work these types of shifts in North Carolina.
If you are already working in North Carolina at a business that rents rooms, you have until June 30, 2027 to complete the required human trafficking prevention training. However, we recommend completing it as soon as possible to stay eligible for shifts and ensure your profile remains compliant.
