What are the different strike types?

Strikes During the Introductory Period

Strikes are calculated differently during your Introductory Period on Upshift. During your first five shifts or five completed punch cards, certain offenses—such as last-minute cancellations and first-shift violations—result in harsher penalties like multiple strikes or even permanent suspension.

Included below is a basic structure, as well as a list of offenses. Please be aware this list is not exhaustive, and Upshift reserves the right to assign those strikes and/or update the list accordingly.

STRIKE ACCUMULATIONS IN A 30-DAY PERIOD

  • 1 STRIKE: Warning

  • 2 STRIKES: 7-Day Temporary Account Suspension & Removal From All Shifts

  • 3 STRIKES: Permanent Suspension From Upshift

1 Strike Offenses:

  • 24-Hour Cancelation: Cancelling a confirmed shift less than 24 hours in advance

  • Attending a Shift Without Being Confirmed: Upshifter attended a shift and was not confirmed for the shift.

  • Dress Code Violation: Upshifter failed to follow the guidelines listed in the shift's "What to Wear" section.

  • Excessive Breaks: Taking longer breaks than allotted by the business

  • Tardiness: Arrival after the posted start time for the shift

  • Failure to Follow Instructions: Upshifter failed to follow instructions given

  • Failure to Read Shift Description: Failure to read the shift posting results in issues surrounding a shift's fulfillment.

  • Left Shift Early: Left shift prior to the posted end time after notifying the on-site supervisor or Upshift within 1 hour of the posted end time

  • Timesheet Falsification Warning: Upshifter failed to Clock In & Out correctly (When they arrived/When they left) or notify Upshift of their correct Clock In/Out time within 12 hours(of the clock-in time).

  • Unauthorized Breaks: Upshifter took breaks without getting approval from management

  • Unprofessional Conduct: Upshifter displayed unprofessional conduct during a shift

2 Strike Offenses:

  • Dress Code Violation First Shift: Upshifter failed to follow the guidelines listed in the shift's "What to Wear" section on their first-ever shift.

  • Excessive Tardiness: Arrived 31 min or later and did not notify Upshift or the client that they would be tardy.

  • Tardiness First Shift: Arrival after the posted start time for the shift causing a disruption in service for the business, and failure to notify Upshift

  • Failure to Read Shift Description First Shift: Failure to read the shift posting resulting in issues surrounding the fulfillment of a shift on Upshifter’s first-ever shift.

  • Left Shift Early First Shift: Left shift prior to the posted end time after notifying the on-site supervisor or Upshift within 1 hour

  • Unprofessional Conduct - First Shift: Upshifter displayed unprofessional conduct during their first-ever shift

3 Strike Offenses:

  • 24-Hour Cancellation First Shift: Cancelling a confirmed shift less than 24 hours in advance when an Upshifter has never worked a shift before.

  • Dereliction of Duty: Halting the performance of work and/or leaving the designated work area without permission

  • Destruction or defacement of property belonging to or operated upon by Upshift, our partners, or clients

  • Falsification, misrepresentation, omission, obfuscation, or alteration of any data, statement, document, record, or form submitted to or received from Upshift, including, but not limited to, time cards, employment, or benefits applications, background checks, work records, etc.

  • Failure to disclose new criminal convictions while employed by Upshift

  • Flagrant disregard for safety or health, endangering lives or property

  • Gross Misconduct: An egregious act that results in automatic termination. Examples include harassment, intoxication, theft, use of inappropriate or offensive language, or violence.

  • Gross Timesheet Falsification: Clocked In & Out for a shift without attending and failed to notify Upshift to remove hours.

  • Intimidation, fighting, instigating, or participating in a physical or verbal altercation while on company time or on-premises belonging to or operated upon by Upshift, our partners, or clients

  • Job Abandonment: Leaving a shift before the posted end time without notifying the on-site manager or Upshifter Support within 1 hour of leaving the shift.

  • No Call No Show: Did not report to a confirmed shift within 1 hour of the start time and did not cancel with Upshift or the business within 15 minutes past the start time.

  • Possessions or use of a weapon while on company time or on-premises belonging to or operated upon by Upshift, our partners, or clients. This includes any weapons stored within your vehicles and parked at these locations.

  • Reporting to or working while under the influence of drugs or alcohol or in an otherwise unfit condition to work in an adequate, acceptable, or safe manner

  • Timesheet Falsification: Upshifter failed to Clock In & Out correctly (When they arrived/When they left) or notify Upshift of their correct Clock In/Out time within 12 hours of the clock-in time.
